Four Decorative Windows


Bewley’s Oriental Café, Grafton Street, Dublin,  Window: 6 :  Date 1927

The first window depicts the Corinthian order of architecture. The elegant bronze column is topped by an overflowing bowl of coloured flowers. A variety of colourful birds and butterflies are depicted in various panels of the window. 

The second window depicts the Doric order of architecture. The tall white column supports a large bowl of flowers and is entwined by a string of blue and white buds. Butterflies, sea creatures and tiny dragonflies also decorate the window.

The third window depicts the Ionic order of architecture. This stone column holds an Egyptian-style bowl of flowers and is decorated by a garland of yellow, gold and white flowers. A magnificent golden bird with open wings is depicted in the lower border.

The fourth window depicts the Composite order of architecture. This stone column is entwined by a string of purple, yellow and white flowers. Two beautiful birds with blue and white and yellow plumage are depicted to the left of the column.
